A Message from Bob Schumacher, WWCS Board President
The Board of Directors has made the tough decision to cancel the Good Vibrations concert scheduled for this spring. In light of the continuing lock down and numbers of COVID cases in Walla Walla County, it is very apparent to us that we will not be able to gather to rehearse in person for this concert anytime soon. We also have a question as to whether or not we would have enough voices and enough people on each part to be viable. We are working with the Gesa Power House Theatre to reschedule the concert for some time in 2022.
In addition to this unfortunate but necessary decision, we will be taking a break from all Zoom rehearsals and calls for a while as we wait out this pandemic. Please know that we are in great financial shape thanks to some grant money and the generosity of you and others who have helped with donations. Your Board has been and will continue to be very engaged and active while we sort through all of this. We will update information on this page as future plans evolve. Please check back here periodically for the latest updates.
We wish you all good health and a happy 2021 as we work through the challenges we’re all facing. Stay safe!
Membership Dues Policy
This policy provides the process for direct membership to singers who would like to build community, learn and sing. It also allows the organization the ability to offer education and additional performance opportunities year-round via regional, national and international choral festivals and other events. Additionally, it provides an opportunity, for those singers who do not desire to perform, a way to participate within the WWCS community exclusive of performances.
The WWCS season begins in September and ends in June, involves three registration cycles, and usually includes three concerts. Open registration for each cycle begins on September 1st, December 1st, and March 1st. Annual membership dues for WWCS for a season are $150.00 which can be paid in either of two ways:
- Payment beginning September 1st of $150.00 ($112.50 for students under the age of 21) for the entire season, or,
- Three separate payments of $50.00 ($37.50 for students under the age of 21) beginning September 1st, December 1st, and March 1st.
Membership dues include use of music, instruction under a qualified Artistic Director, musical education and performance opportunities. Appropriate support materials and music will be provided to each member following online registration and payment of dues according to the options listed above.
The WWCS annually budgets for and is dependent on full annual participation of the membership to ensure that it can continue to provide a valuable experience for both singing participants and audiences alike. The WWCS Board is committed to managing the cost to participate in WWCS and to keep expenses at a reasonable level.
If singers are unable to meet dues obligations because of financial challenges, several alternative approaches are available:
- propose an alternative payment amount with a payment plan,
- ask for partial dues waivers,
- volunteer for a significant project/responsibility, or
- apply for a scholarship from the John W. Neumann Memorial Scholarship Fund (JWNMSF).
The process for all options except the application for a scholarship is as follows:
Communicate with the President of the WWCS Board in writing or by email, giving information as to the nature of the hardship, at what level the singer is able to pay, and jointly work out a plan for meeting the agreed-upon total payment. If the President is not available, the Secretary/Treasurer will act in that capacity.
All applications for scholarship will be carefully considered; the application form is available on this site under SCHOLARSHIPS. The JWNMSF Committee of the WWCS will review each application and respond to each request in a timely manner. The limited information shared will be kept completely confidential. Applicants will receive a response or an alternate suggestion in a timely manner.
