How to Become a Member:

  1. Complete your vocal verification with Robb Harrison

  2. Register to sing below (or join our waitlist if your section is full)

  3. Attend rehearsals (to perform in a concert, a singer must not miss more than three (3) rehearsals)

The singing members of Walla Walla Choral Society are key in achieving our mission which is to promote and perform quality choral music collaborating with other artistic groups to enrich cultural life through musical education and performance. We are proud that in recent years, the choir is moving towards our vision which is to serve as the premier choral organization in our region. Under Robb’s leadership, we’ve successfully performed progressively challenging repertoire!

A step towards performance excellence is to ensure each member is confident in their singing abilities. Historically, an audition had been required for membership in the choir and this may be something we explore more fully soon.

For this concert season, Robb will simply have you sing:

 Happy Birthday (especially focusing on the octave jump so you start and end in the same key)

 5 tone scale (on ah, oo, and ee vowels), like do re mi fa so fa mi re do/ 123454321

 Short pitch retention exercise (Robb will play a few pitches and you sing them back to him)

Vocal Verification will be held at the beginning of the season, and will be available before each concert for any new members wishing to join the choir. Verification has been completed for our Rutter Christmas concert, but if you are interested in further concerts, please check this page in January to find verification dates for our next concert, Remembering WWII.

To achieve proper section balance, registration will be limited to 20 Soprano, 20 Bass, 20 Tenor, and 30 Alto, for a total of 90 singers. This is due to riser / venue space capacity. There will be a waitlist for those verified singers that exceed current capacity limits for the section, as some attrition does occur.

If you have been verified, keep scrolling to register for A Rutter Christmas. Registration is open until September 16th, and should be done before you arrive at our first rehearsal, on Monday September 9th.

Membership Dues Policy

The WWCS concert season begins in September and ends in June with around three concerts per season. It includes registration and dues (which are completed online only).

Membership dues include the use of music, instruction under a qualified Artistic Director, musical education, and performance opportunities. Music and appropriate support materials will be provided to each member following online registration and payment of dues.

The membership dues structure is set up so that singers pay for the rehearsals and concerts in which they plan to participate. Annual membership dues for the entire WWCS season are $150.00 ($112.50 for students under the age of 21).

Two options are available for payment of dues:

  • Single full payment of $135.00 (involves 10% discount for full payment), OR

  • Three separate payments of $50.00 each, due by Sep. 16, Jan. 13, and Mar. 31

For students:

  • Single full payment of $112.50 (includes 25% student discount), OR

  • Three separate payments of $37.50 each, due by Sep. 16, Jan. 13, and Mar. 31

We encourage singers who cannot meet dues obligations because of financial challenges to apply for a scholarship from the John W. Neumann Memorial Scholarship Fund by emailing treasurer@wallawallachoralsociety.org
